TOKYO — An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.3 rocked eastern Japan centering on Ibaraki and Tochigi prefectures as well as on Fukushima Prefecture in northeastern Japan early Saturday, the "Japan Meteorological Agency reported for the 1:55 a.m. QUAKE". The quake measured 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in the city of Shirakawa in Fukushima Prefecture, the cities of Mito and Hitachi in Ibaraki Prefecture, and the city of Mooka and the towns of Ninomiya and Mashiko in Tochigi Prefecture, and 3 in the city of Koriyama in Fukushima, the city of Hitachiota in Ibaraki, and the city of Utsunomiya in Tochigi.
